Some of the other nearby cities and regions in California where we are actively buying houses, townhouses, lofts, and condos include: Carlsbad, Coronado, El Cajon, Encinitas, Escondido, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Oceanside, Poway, San Diego, San Marcos, Santee, Spring Valley, and Vista.

Near the southernmost part of California, just a few miles south of downtown San Diego, in beautiful San Diego County, you can find Chula Vista, National City, and Imperial Beach. Although estimated to have been populated since 3000 BCE, this area was historically inhabited by the Kumeyaay people before the Spanish people began moving into the area. It passed hands multiple times during the years that followed before eventually incorporating into the United States in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

When looked at together, the overall population is estimated to be about 329,000 people with the largest concentration found in Chula Vista. Chula Vista has a population of roughly 244,000 people. National City is thought to have been founded by Native Americans in the mid-18th century, and was incorporated in 1887, as the second oldest city in San Diego County. Today it stands at a population of just over 55,500. Imperial Beach boasts a population of about 26,000 people.

San Diego County has about 70 miles of coastline but is also mountainous, so the average temperatures of the region can vary. Near the coastline, the temperatures are generally quite warm, but there is some precipitation, while the mountains can occasionally see frost and snow in the wintertime. Officially, the northern part of the county is classified as “Mediterranean,” while the southern and eastern areas are classified as “semi-arid.” There are at least 200 days a year where the temperature is above 72 degrees. The area only receives an average of about 10 inches of rain a year. Overall, this area is rated among the best weather cities in America due to how consistent the weather is every year. The county is still considered to be relatively warm, though, with summer temperatures around 70-80 degree Fahrenheit and winter temperatures around 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tourism plays a huge role in San Diego County, partially due to the geography and wilderness, but also due to the highly diverse population and cultures that call San Diego County home. The County has seven National Protected Areas and seven State Parks, including the Cabrillo National Monument, and Cleveland National Forest. It also hosts the famous San Diego Zoo. Outside of wildlife and animals, the Sleep Train Amphitheatre and U.S Olympic Trainer Centre are some of Chula Vista’s notable attractions, while National City hosts the annual Automobile Heritage Day Car Show and the Mile of Cars is recognized as one of the first auto malls in the world. The San Diego Chargers of the National Football League (NFL) and San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB) also play in the County.

There are many places around the area that are notable for different reasons. One of the biggest retailers in the country, Macy’s has a location here. The Navy’s Naval Outlying Landing Field Imperial Beach is located here and is bordered closely by the Silver Strand Training Complex. This is easily explained by the fact that the Naval Base San Diego is located here. Beyond its military presence, there are other locations worth mentioning. National City hosts the Paradise Valley Hospital, which is the number one employer in the city, while Chula Vista’s economy is driven by entrepreneurship and small businesses. That being said, the area’s top employers are the Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center and United Technologies Aerospace Systems.

Regarding higher education, students can attend university at the University of California – San Diego, San Diego State University or California State University – San Marcos. San Diego County is also the United States Navy's principal location for West Coast and Pacific Ocean operations and is the primary location for training U.S Navy SEALs.

Getting around San Diego County isn’t hard, and Chula Vista, National City and Imperial Beach are served by a number of interstates. The County has a whopping 11 airports including San Diego International Airport and Brown Field Municipal Airport, near Chula Vista. There are also ample Metrolink and AMTRAK and the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (light rail). As the area is also well known for its marinas and fishing, the Chula Vista marina and San Diego port are always highly popular establishments to get on the water. Whether you are interested in fun activities, good shopping or just somewhere new to visit and have a good time, this area has something for everyone. The area of Chula Vista, National City, and Imperial Beach has enough to do to keep everyone happy.
