The city of Bloomington is located in central Illinois. The city traces its origin to 1820 when Euro-American settlers arrived in the area, at that time the Kickapoo people, a Native American Tribe, were the inhabitants of the place. However, it was not until a decade later in 1830 when the area was made the county Seat of the then newly created McLean County that it began experiencing real growth and development. It began with James Allin donating over 60 acres of his land to develop the new town. The area had rich soils for agriculture that encouraged the migration of new farmers into Bloomington. With a booming agricultural economy, people moved in to trade at the site that grew to the present day, Downtown Bloomington.

Today, the city of Bloomington is a modern community located in the County of McLean where it is the county seat. The city is home to more than 90,000 people ranking it the 12th most populous city in Illinois.

The city of Normal, on the other hand, dates its history to 1854 when Joseph Parkinson laid out North Bloomington on the part of his land at the intersection of Chicago-Alton and Illinois Central Railroads. However, the modern day Normal is associated to Jesse Fell who although was not involved in the original layout of the town but played a significant role in the city’s growth and development. Jesse Fell put in place the policies that led to the growth of this city. He planted trees, placed clauses on deeds to help maintain those trees, and placed clauses in deeds to restrict the sale of alcohol in properties. In 1865, this city was renamed Normal, a name taken from Illinois State Normal University which was a teacher training institution then. Years later, the university was renamed Illinois State University.
