Before European contact, the Native American Tribe of Duwamish originally occupied this area of Kent. The indigenous people practiced fishing, hunting, and gathering of berries at the valley surrounding the plateaus for thousands of years. Most of the indigenous people here welcomed the white settlers in the 1800s because the newcomers broadened their trading potential. However, as more Europeans were settling in the valley the lands diminished, and tensions flared. This area was originally known as Titusville and during the 1880s; this region discovered hops crop production as a primary source of income. This area began to grow rapidly when the world’s hops crops prices skyrocketed after aphid invasion affected the hops crops in Europe. After the turn of the twentieth century, this area adopted dairy farming and built Carnation Condensed Milk Plant, which became a major source of income here.

Today, Kent has grown from a small agrarian village to a modern city located in the central western part of Washington in King County. This city covers a total size of approximately 29.2 square miles and is home to about 130,000 people making it the sixth largest city in Washington. Geographically this area is divided into three the East Hill, West Hill, and the Valley. Warehouses entirely cover most of the valley area, and residents of this city have a perfect view of Mt.
