Lake Havasu City began as a resting camp on the shores of Lake Havasu for the Army Corps in the Second World War. Robert McCulloch bought 3,353 acres of land in 1958 Malong Pittsburgh point on the east of the lake and developed it. Four years later McCulloch purchased additional 13,000 acres of land in the area surrounding the Lake and developed it further. In 1963, La Paz County and Mohave County Board of Supervisors established the city making it a legal entity. In 1978, Lake Havasu was incorporated. Parker, a town to the South, was also growing. It was named after Ely Parker who was the first Commissioner for the US federal government. The name Parker was first used when the first post office was called Parker in 1871. Today Parker is the county seat of La Paz County while Lake Havasu City is in Mojave County both in the state of Arizona, United States. Lake Havasu has a population estimate of 55,000 people while Parker has a population of 6,000 people. As a result, the area has a total population of 61,000 people.

Lake Havasu is geographically located in the southernmost part of the Greater Las Vegas, which makes it more isolated from the other cities of the County of Mohave, and Parker is in Parker Valley of Colorado River 38 miles to the south along Arizona State 95.

When McCulloch bought the London Bridge originally built in 1831, for 2.5 million dollars and then spent an additional 7 million to renovate it, people laughed. Today, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area since 1971. The bridge is very long and arches over the manmade channel in the city of Lake Havasu.

This region enjoys a desert climate of mild winters and hot summers. The winters begin in late November and end in early March. The coldest month is January when the temperature falls to 77 degrees Fahrenheit. The summer begins in late May and ends in early September. The hottest month is July when the temperature can rise to above 110 degrees Fahrenheit. With this suitable climate, in the winter months, there is an influx of retirees into the community from the colder places of the country and Canada.

The major employer in the area is Sterlite Corporation, which is the world’s largest plastic houseware manufacturer. It has been in the area for over seventy years. The other employers include American Woodwork Corporation, Laron Engineering, Guardian Fiberglass, Inc, McKee Foods Corporation among others.

This area is an active destination for people from all lifestyles. It is home to International World Jet Ski Final Races, Western Winter Blast Pyrotechnic convention, Chillin n Swill-n-Beer Festival, Havasu Island Hot Air Fair and Fest, and Havasu 95 Speedway. McCulloch Boulevard home is one of the main winter events that attracts thousands of residents and visitors known as the Winterfest.

The region boasts a unique set of infrastructure. Arizona state Route 95 is the only road access to the city of Lake Havasu. The road meets I-10 on the south and I-40 on the north. Avi Suquilla Airport in Parker is a public airport on the east of Parker Central Business District. Arizona-California Railroad is also headquartered at Parker, and it crosses Colorado River on the north of the town.

The area has the culture of producing movies. In 1971, Day of Wolves was produced at Lake Havasu. The London Bridge relocation formed the basis of the movie 'Bridge Across Time 1985' some other movies include Savage beach of 1989, Hard Hunted of 1992 and the 1990’s Gun among others.
