Danbury is a city located in the southwestern part of Connecticut. The city traces its history to 1685 when eight families from Stamford and Norwalk Connecticut moved here, bought land, and settled. Before these eight families came, this was an area originally settled by Pahquioque people belonging to the Native American Tribes. Among the eight families, the most renowned is Samuel Benedict and his brother who lived here and together with the other settlers named it Swampfield. Two years later, in 1687 the General Court decided that the name of this town would be changed to Danbury, and it appointed a committee to lay out the boundaries of this town. However, it was not until the American Revolution that this area began growing, during the war the area here was used as a military supply depot. In 1777, the British Loyalist troops under General William Tyron attacked this town, looted, and conquered it. After the conquest, this city began experiencing massive growth and development when the local authority embarked on rebuilding the town.
