Here are some of the other nearby cities and regions around Jacksonville and Onslow County where we are actively buying houses, townhouses, lofts, and condos in: Goldsboro, Havelock, Kinston, New Bern, and Wilmington.

The city of Jacksonville dates its history to the 17th Century before the Europeans came and the Native American tribe of Tuscarora who practiced hunting and gathering as a source of livelihood settled here. When the Europeans came in the 1700s, their arrival led to a buildup of tension between them and the indigenous communities that lived here. As the number of white settlers increased in this region, they would not allow the Tuscarora people to hunt near their farms, and this reduced the indigenous people hunting lands that resulted in the Tuscarora war. However, it was not until 1713 after the end of Tuscarora war that this area began experiencing steady growth and development. After the war, the indigenous people were moved to permanent settlements of Wilmington, and New Bern and Europeans took the lands for agriculture. With time, the New Rivers Headwaters became a center of tobacco, turpentine, and lumber that formed the backbone of the early industry here.

Today, Jacksonville has grown from a village area to a modern city located in the southeastern part of North Carolina in Onslow County where it is the county seat. The area here covers a total size of 45.2 square miles and has a population of approximately 80,000 people. This population ranks this area the fourteenth largest city in the state and the principal city of Jacksonville North Carolina Metropolitan Area.

Over time, this region has developed and was recently ranked by Forbes Magazine as the 5th fastest growing small city in the country. The major employers in this region include MCCS Camp Lejeune, Onslow County, United States Department of Defense and Onslow Memorial Hospital among others.

Climate wise, this area enjoys a humid continental climate, which has cold, snowy winters, and hot, humid summers. The hottest month is July with an average high of 84 degrees Fahrenheit while January is the coldest month with an average low of 21 degrees Fahrenheit. The average precipitation is approximately 48 inches per year, and the area receives even rainfall nearly in all months of the year. The wettest month is September with about 5 inches of rain while the driest month is February with about 3 inches of rainfall because most of the precipitation falls in the winter as snow.

This area has several parks and recreational centers located throughout the city, along the waterways, and in the neighborhoods. Some of the parks here include Jacksonville Landing & Northeast Creek Parks, Riverwalk Crossing Park, LP Willingham Park, Wilson Bay Park, Sturgeon City Park, and Jacksonville Commons & Richard Ray All American Park.
